Will’s five month update

Personality:
Will is a charmer, we’re talking LADY’S MAN to the max.  When we go out he smiles constantly at all the girls - I think he has a serious thing for brunettes.  We went out to Earls last night and one of the Hostesses couldn’t get enough of him and he couldn’t get enough of her!  She held him while Nate, Scarlet and I ate dinner!  Talk about service.  The girls at the front of the restaurant were all oooing and ahhing over how cute and handsome he was.  He just gazed up at them and smiled non-stop.  I could tell he was putting a serious spell on them and they were eating it up.

Sleep:
The nights have been getting better but it’s still hard.  He wakes up for a feed and sometimes he wants it twice in the night, but I oblige and just give it to him.  I’d rather do that at this point and put him down again quickly than spend the better part of the wee early hours bouncing, rocking, singing, dancing and doing anything but sleeping in order to wean him off of the night feeds.  I know from experience it will happen in time (for Scarlet it happened at month six).  A few nights ago he slept for 7 hours straight!  We were so thrilled, it was just the best.  Hoping for more nights like that.

Physicality:
Will is flipping!  He can roll from back to front which freaks me out a bit since we still swaddle him to sleep.  He loves the tight wrap so it’s going to take some work on our part weaning him from that…
His eyes seem to be getting lighter and lighter and his little hair is starting to come in.  It looks like he will have light brown hair but we’ll see!
He’s geting geared up for the jolly jumper and he loves the exersaucer.  It’s neck control so his gigantic Ukrainian head occasionally poses as a bit of a heavy feat - but not something that is going to stop this boy!

His stats
At his last doc appointment he was 16 pounds and that was a while ago so I’m sure he’s about 16.5 by now - maybe even 17!
He is 22 inches long and fits into 6 month clothing already!  What a tank!  He’s in size FOUR diapers!  Which is hilarious because that is the size that Scarlet finished at!  Woah…

Food:
He’s still breastfeeding exclusively but I’m hoping to start him on some solids around 5 and a half months.  The World Health Organization has brought it back from 6 months to 4-6 months so we’ll definitely be taking advantage of that!  We’ll go with an iron fortified oatmeal with a little bit of prune juice mixed in there to prevent any back up.  Scarlet got fairly constipated when we began solids so I’d like to avoid those stresses this time around.  I plan to continue to nurse Will till his first birthday and also because he may be our last baby so I’d like to hold onto that as long as possible.

Me 5 months postpartum

How are you feeling?
I was feeling fabulous up until a little while ago when I heard the saddest news I have heard in a very long time.  One of my friends lost her sweet baby girl after she was born at 37 weeks.  It totally rocked my world in a very huge way and brought up a lot of remaining feelings and sadness from when I lost our first baby a few years ago.  There is no way to describe the pain to anyone, unfortunately not even friend, family members or your husband.  They will never fully know your pain since it happened to you and your body.  The connection with that little soul starts day 1 that you learn of it’s existence and it is something only babe and mother can ever have.  That bond is unmatched.  It’s such a devastating scenario that we can’t control and only feel like we are left to pick up the pieces and move on by ourselves and it can be totally debilitating for the mother.  I know this despair so well.  It also really struck a cord with me seeing as how Will was born at 37 weeks with major red flags emerging prior to his delivery.  I just can’t help but feel like it could have gone south very quickly and easily.  All week, I have felt sadness for my friend.  Nobody should have to go through this and yet we do.   The positive is that I have had a huge appreciation for what the outcome with my third pregnancy was.  It is just such a huge reminder to me that all children are such blessings, such miracles and all the sleepless nights, diapers, tears, major temper tantrums are absolutely worth it.

Any weight loss?
At five months postpartum I’m sitting at 110pds which is at the lowest part of my ‘range’.  At 5’6 I know this is very light but the nursing has been the biggest reason for it.  It is hard to keep up with the calories going out!  I’m hoping to put on a few healthy pounds in the next while by eating as much as possible and working out with the intention to build muscle.

Best moment this week?
Celebrating both Scarlet and Will’s age milestones.

What are you looking forward to?
I’ve been invited out with two girlfriends for a lady’s night out.  I’m so excited to chat and catch up with the gems.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Party Pics!

I'll keep this post short and sweet.  The little gathering to celebrate my sweetie's 2nd year was so fun!
She was totally obsessed with the cake.  She couldn't stop talking about it all day long and touching it and basically freaking out about the fact that she was going to eat it.  Serious sweet tooth on this kid...

Happy happy girl.
Apparently I was feeling pretty happy too - wish I knew what I was laughing at here...

This next shot cracks me up.  Scarlet discovered her tricycle earlier than we wanted and just stood there and stared at it for a few seconds.  I think she was in shock cause she wanted one so badly.  On walks whenever we see a kid with a tricycle or bike, she stops and cheers and asks to 'Go on...ride?'. Well - now she'll have endless fun outside on this thing.  Time to buy a helmet.

Grammy, Grandpa, Grandma, Dzjadzju and Uncle Dan were also there and spoiled Scarlet rotten with books, clothes, shopping carts, toys, you name it.  It was scary how much loot this kid hauled in.  I myself felt a little overwhelmed with the amount of goods so we'll be gradually showing her all of the toys as the weeks progress.  I'll also be teaching Scarly about the very important act of writing thank you cards even if it is just a little signature on the bottom of a pink note.

I was also going to say we had a fancy Easter dinner at my parents place a few days before and Scarlet wore a pretty pink dress, but I wanted to keep it casual and fun for her party.  Here are a few pics of her in this gorgeous gown from my mom!

Scarlet’s Two Year Update

Favourites

Favourite Food: She’ll eat anything, ANYTHING!  But her favourite food is either pizza, sushi or bananas.  I still have to blend half of one into her milk everyday or she won’t touch it.  I had a complete stranger come up to me at the Science Center a few weeks ago and ask what my secret was to getting her to become an amazing eater (she was watching Scarlet scarf down a spinach salad with boiled eggs and a turkey sandwich), and I told her she’s always been a great eater.  But after thinking about it, I realize that I don’t ever fight with her the odd time she doesn’t want to eat something.  I always say ‘OK!’ and then just eat it myself.  I guess she just always sees that and probably (hopefully) thinks; ‘dang, I’m missing out’.  It seems to have worked.

Favourite Word: Delicious (she says this after she chugs her water in the morning) but goes DEEEE-licious!  She’s also practicing saying the word: Spectacular!

Book: Makeup Mess by Robert Munsch

TV Show: Bubble Guppies

Movie: Parts of Frozen (I know…this mommy drank the Disney juice), but she hasn’t watched the entire thing.  She’s too busy.

Song: Jealous by Nick Jonas (again, I know.  It’s my fault)  BUT on the positive she does ask for ‘Ballet music’ (classical) almost daily.

Colour: Pink (shocking)

Toy: Fire Engine.  Scarlet wait like 20 years - you have nooooooo idea.

Her best sayings/phrases:

When looking at my Bible she picked it up and said:
‘BEHOLD GUYS!’
(I have no idea where she got that from)

When the Xmas deer fell down in our backyard (like a few days ago) she said:
‘That’s a broken-hearted reindeer’.

When we were all eating breakfast one day, she said:
‘I LOVE…steering wheels’.

We were driving to Starbucks one day and she pointed out the window and said:
‘Look at that beautiful bulldozer!’

Skills: She can cross her fingers, jump on one leg and play hide n seek like nobody’s business.

Skip this bit if you don’t want to hear a mother brag about her daughter.  Ok, but seriously guys…
Scarlet is SHARP!.  She can count to twenty (was doing this a few weeks ago), sings her ABC’s all the way to the end of the ‘…next time won’t you sing with me’ part, and says her full name to strangers who ask her what it is.  I KNOW RIGHT?!  Also, when we were in Indigo and the cashier asked her how old she was, she didn’t just say ‘two’ she said ‘two years old’.  WHA?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!??!  Ok there.  I’m done.

Personality
 Holy, what a firecracker.  She absolutely knows when people are watching her and LOVES the attention.  It’s hilarious.  She puts on such a show.  Totally social kid too.  Walks right up to other little kids and gives them hugs. It’s so adorable but occasionally they aren’t reciprocated because the other child is either scared of her, or too shy.  Scarlet usually just walks away but a few days ago she asked the kid after they turned away from her hug;

‘What’s the matter?’

Personal space Scarlet.  Personal space…

Vocabulary
She usually speaks in sentences now but they’re kinda mumbled around a bit.  Like for example she’ll say ‘Carry you now mommy’ when she wants me to pick her up.  ‘You’ and ‘Me’ are still a little mixed up but ‘I’ is pretty clear in her mind.  She’ll say ‘I’m coming now too!’ or ‘I don’t like it’.

Stats
23 pounds
32 inches
shoe size: 6
Clothing size: 18-24 months (still fits 1T and 2T is a little big on her)
Vaccinations are all up to date and we have Hair!  Took a good year and a half to come but its here!

I’ll get a few (million) shots of the little cupcake tonight at her party - that is if I can catch her.  She’s still napping once a day on most days so hopefully she’ll get a serious one in this afternoon since this evening is going to be jam packed.  It’s a gorgeous day out today so we’ll probably be learning all about tricycles!  Can’t wait to see her little expression.  Have a fantastic day friends!

2 year old bday prezzies!

We knew we wanted to have a small birthday bash for Scarlet this year, (I’m still recovering from her massive party last year), so we invited both sets of grandparents for this Wednesday night and just two (count em’) two friends.  One, two.  Done.  Two years old - two friends at the party.  Hey, maybe that can be a ‘birthday rule’.  Haha.

Anywho, I’ve been picking up a few gifts for our sweetie as the weeks have gone by but now as I post the pictures of them all together it looks as though Scarlet is being SPOILED!!!  Obviously, we don’t want a princess on our hands so chances are we’ll let her open one or two and save the rest for another day.
Ok - this gift might be for me.  I LOVED Tangled.

Such a classic, and Scarly is uubbsseessedddd with dogs.

Big ole' gigantic colouring book.  We'll be working on colouring in the lines.

This one is a touch smaller with stickers!!!

Important Books

The theme this year is the legendary beast; the Unicorn, in honour of Scar's hair coming in and being bunched into a ponytail on top of her forehead.  I gotta say - this is probably my favourite ‘do’ on her so far.   We get serious admiring looks from strangers whenever we’re out and about - and I can’t say that I dislike people going wonky over how cute my daughter is. aha.  This toy is also going to be the birthday cake topper.

 awe...
a few spring pieces from Zara
This little rope belt kills me xo

A few pieces for Will too.  I couldn't help myself.
Zara baby boy

All wrapped up and ready to go for Wed!  Also, when did Tink get so smoking' hot?

Finally, the BIG ticket item - and by big I mean we spent $40 on kijiji but she'll never know.

Her very first set of (used) WHEELS!!!

Ah yah.  SCORE!  Tricycle that can convert to a bigger tricycle!  Win win.

Scarlet’s bday is on Wed so I’ll have a two year update later this week along with party pics.  Will turns 5 months on Friday (HOW?) so that will be going up too.

Hope everyone had a very happy Easter.  We went to Church and made it on time!!! (for once).  I felt uber proud.  We’re going to my Mom’s for Easter dinner tomorrow.  I guess we’re slowly getting the hang of this two under two thing but that’s the last time I’ll be able to use that phrase!  Who Hoo!  Have a fantastic day friends.

Morning snuggles

The kids are starting to become more and more aware of each other’s existence.  Will studies Scarlet like she’s the most interesting thing since breastmilk and Scarlet is really beginning to show an interest in playing with him.  She wakes up and asks to ‘’Go tickle William now?”.  This morning (very early as you can see as we’re all still in our PJ’s) Scarly asked to ‘Hold William now?’  I immediately grabbed a few pillows and my camera and shot these two really sweet pics of them.  I couldn’t get Scarlet to look up cause she was so fascinated by Will’s hands and clearly Will was enjoying every second of the attention from her - he looks stunned that she's even paying him any attention!  Haha.  They were so adorable that it almost, ALMOST got me thinking about having another down the line.  They're just so darn sweet!  I must be over-tired...

Have a great weekend friends!  I'll be planning and prepping for Scarlet's 2nd bday this wednesday!

Weekly workout

Its Wednesday and it's time for me to start getting back into daily workouts - even if it means 15 min a day.  That's basically all the time I have for it at this point anyway.  Here's this week's workout!  Everyday, once a day, anytime of day.
