This little monkey got a new toy!
After Scarlet spent some time with some very feminine toys (wicker furniture, a few dolls and a very pink tea set), we realized that she has very few (as in zilch) ‘girly girl’ toys. She has a million books, a rocking horse, a wagon, a massive stuffed elephant, two or three stuffed animals, a piano and a few kid friendly computers and learning toys. In fact, probably the most feminine toy that she has is a pink and purple dump truck.
The hour or so at the show home where the tea set was got us thinking. Scarly was absolutely enthralled with it and had the worst break down when we left - she’s now 16 months…it would be kind of fun to buy her a little girly kitchen with all the fun ‘food’ toys and cups and plates that come with it.
So, I checked Kijiji and found this absolutely adorable kitchen, table and chairs and two massive bags full of toys to accompany it for $50!!! Not only was the price right, but we felt really good about re-using something that another little girl had enjoyed for a few years beforehand. I guess that’s what happens when you marry someone passionate about recycling. Nate just cleaned up the larger pieces and I hand washed all the plastic toys. Scarlet went absolutely bananas.
Here are some shots of Scarlet first seeing and playing with the new purchase. It was almost impossible to get her to turn around to look at the camera. The first hour, most of the shots that I took were of the back of her head…
Seeing and trying to reach the phone. TIP TOES!
Got it!
Demi-pointe to put the phone back again.
So, how do I turn this thing on? Oh! An orange.
Dad showing Scarlet how to sauté some veggies in the pan (that makes various sound effects)!
Distracted for about three seconds by an airplane outside.
Then straight back to work.
I wanted to post this pic because of her sweet little blonde waves on the back of her head. We're GETTING SOME HAIR!!!
Some of the fruit pieces come right apart and velcro back together. GENIUS!
This looks delish! I'll just have a little bite here...
What the?
This is the first time she was able to sit in the chair on her own. Look how happy and proud she is of herself!!! I just love that sweet smile. AHHHHHH!!!!! XOXOXOXOX
and I really REALLY see myself in the photo below. Our baby pics are almost identical...
Check me out guys!
One leg up!
Both legs up, but I want to play some more.
I'm out! Gotta bet back to it!
Then there is the subject of the 'food' that came with this purchase. I have never seen so many cute little imitation items that seem to be bordering 'vintage' status. The following pics came from the first bag and I can't believe how many toys there are. We really got a steal of a deal.
Soda, orange juice, tomato soup, sunny butter! AWESOME!
Mustard and ketchup!
We even got a few tins of sardines!
Ummmm, adorable. We ended up hiding all of the fries (there were hundreds) since Scarlet might be able to swallow them. They are a little small so we'll bring them back out when she's older.
Thanksgiving Dinner complete with a piece of cherry pie.
Hoagies and pringles!
Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Fruit. This was just a small bowl of the hoards of fruit that we got.
PIZZA!
Dessert. That donut looks fantastic.
Stir-fried veg.
A few tools and a Cinderella cup.
Almost a complete set of pots, pans, plates, cups and lids.
Then there were a few ??? out of the first bag. If you can help that would be great. I think the first pic is an old maggoty chocolate chip cookie. Nate thinks it's Rotini with meatballs. What do you think?
The next picture, I believe to be brown rice and beans. Nate thinks it's spaghetti O's with chopped olives. Thoughts?
Looking forward to having playdates and other kids over to enjoy the toy. Although we only have about four little girl friends, we'll definitely be exposing ALL of our little male friends to the pink domain because hey - a boy has GOT to know his way around the kitchen!
