MY FIRST MAGAZINE ARTICLE!!!

Directly after being asked to write an article that would potentially be used in Birthmark Magazine, you could have stripped down to your birthday suit, danced a fancy gig and told me you were going to shave my head and I wouldn’t have noticed.  I was in shock.  I immediately jumped at the opportunity with fear and doubt climbing up my throat with every idea that crossed my mind.  I could have been ill at any given moment because my personal expectations were high.  So, I wanted the piece to SLAY (mommy style of course).

So I got to writing it.  The top dogs at the magazine seemed to like it and my article was included in the June/July issue.  DREAM.  COME.  TRUE.  But the icing on top of the cake is that they want to work together again in the future, and this time they are willing to look at my pictures.  (Cue pre-teen just been winked at by her crush squeal).

Here is the article.  I’m super proud (if you can’t tell) and I hope to write another soon.  PS, can someone please provide me with a piercing pinch in the arm cause I still feel like I'm making this up...

If you're like me and need to zoom into things to see the fine print here is the link to the viewable version:

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A LOVELY DAY!

SPUD Delivers!

Prepping (and of course sampling) the apricots and they were so juicy and delish that I had to lean over so it wouldn't coat my floors.

Can we pause for a second to admire these gorgeous colours?!?  Wow...

Professional smoothie tester.  (Check out my baby and toddler friendly recipe below)

I just love it when there is still clean soil on the carrots!  Is that weird?

The kids go wild for the smoothie.

(My littlest spud finishing the kale smoothie till the last morsel was out of that glass).

Yesterday was like Christmas in July for me.  In fact, whenever my blue bins arrive from SPUD, I feel a huge rush of excitement, partly because I know all of the goodies inside are just waiting to be consumed but also because I can cross off ‘GET FOOD’ from my mile long ‘to-do’ list.  That means my afternoon can actually be spent with my kids rather than running around the grocery store trying to find the least bruised avocado.  Organic Food - delivered to your front door.  It’s a game changer.

Here’s how it works:  1) you sign up (without a contract which is awesome), 2) you shop online and then 3) you eat the goodness that comes right to your house while you enjoy your precious time.  They have everything from laundry detergent, to gifts, to pre-made dinners if you’re in a pinch.  It’s amazing.  Canadian Mommas from Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Victoria - it’s a must for saving time and energy.

Our upcoming NYC trip is also on my mind and as I’ve mentioned, I really want to look and feel my best.  So nourishing my body with the best organic food around completely supports my goals and I never feel guilty or worried about giving my kids anything from SPUD.  PLUS, the majority of it is local food from our Western Canadian farmers!  Talk about feeling good about having an impact on the environment and supporting local farming families!

This is basically how I see it.  Local food builds community.  Communities help maintain a solid and progressive society.  Raising our children in a positive and safe society is what every mother wants and when the mother’s in the households are happy and healthy, life is just better for everyone. Haha! How’s that for a train of thought?

Spud and I have paired up so that you can get $20 off of your purchase by using the code:

AVOCADO20

Just pop that baby in when you’re checking out and it’s even more of a deal!

Happy Monday and happy shopping friends!!!

Then for dinner, we had the Chicken and Veggie Pie which can be found here: SPUD Pot Pies OUT OF THIS WORLD!  I was so shocked at how 'homemade' it tasted and was totally disappointed when it was done.  That meal will be on repeat this fall and winter!

Baby/Toddler smoothie recipe:

One peeled carrot
One banana
1/2 an apricot
1/2 an apple
1/2 an avocado
two leaves of black kale
1/2 a cup of lactose milk
Ice and water for desired consistency

Busy busy summer

Wait guys - isn’t the summer supposed to be LESS busy than the school year?  Well, it certainly hasn’t felt that way around our pad lately.  In this month alone, we’ve been up to the cabin, we’ve had a birthday party, we had three wonderful nights with three awesome couples and their amazing kids, Nate and I had a shopping night and tonight I’m out for dinner with my best friend.  So, it’s been crazy but awesome.  Please forgive my lack of posts but I seriously need to play a bit of catch up or I can guarantee that I’ll be getting sick sometime soon if I don’t slow down a little.

So here is a quick pic of what my birthday cake looked like.  Scarlet and I baked it together while William slept and I served this for the ‘family’ birthday party when I turned 26 on July 7th.  HA!  Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!
